Today Acorns (internal link) announced a new service, Acorns Later – investing in a tax advantaged account according to your profile. Basically, Acorns will peruse your profile and ask some questions and recommend either a Traditional, Roth or SEP IRA.
This IRA can be funded from recurring payments (like Betterment (internal link), or any other IRA servicer) or incidental investments you choose to make.
The cost of Acorns Later is $1.00 per month. I already invest in IRA’s from Aspiration, and Betterment which, given the amount of money I have invested, have much preferable cost structures.
Still, Acorns works well for some, and I have generally been very happy with their performance. My Acorns investment account is an aggressive one, and so it vacillates more wildly than some might be comfortable with, but it’s performing well as to it’s peers.
