Welcome Highly Efficient Swagbucks Book Club Members! Are you ready for our discussion of the May book club title, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey? Thank you to everyone who voted in last week’s poll. The winning title for June is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Here is a brief synopsis of the book which can be picked up at Amazon right now for just $8.44. Put some of those fabulous Amazon Gift Cards to use!
It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . . Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.
This title will be discussed on the last Friday of June – 6/28/2013.
Today’s discussion is Stephen Covey’s widely-popular book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Powerful Lessons in Personal Change). One of the underlying tenets of the book is communication and to that end I will be perfectly honest with you – I could not read this book. While I really wanted to read it, learn it, absorb it, put it into practice – life just got in the way! It is dense with information and psychology and challenges you to change your paradigm. Well my reading paradigm is to enjoy reading a book before bed but this is certainly not one of those types of books. This is much more of a text book which requires being aggressively alert. This was just beyond my available schedule for the month of May.
For today’s discussion I will post questions and thoughts for your feedback. Also feel free to post your own findings or feelings about the title. On Monday I will randomly choose 10 members to award with 25 Swag Bucks each. Therefore, the discussion can last throughout the weekend if you are not available right at 10am Friday. And don’t be shy with your comments. Just check in and introduce yourself to the group and you just might get hooked up come Monday!
Let’s get this party started!
